Unesco Biosphere Reserve Lungau

Pure nature

The Lungau UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is a breathtaking region in the Austrian province of Salzburg. As part of the worldwide network of UNESCO biosphere parks, Lungau is known for its unique combination of cultural heritage and unspoilt nature. Together with the Carinthian Nockberge Mountains, Salzburg’s Lungau region has received this special honour, making it the largest UNESCO biosphere reserve in the whole of Austria.

Our region encompasses a diverse landscape with alpine pastures, forests, clear waters and striking peaks. The preservation of the traditional cultural landscape, sustainable land use and the protection of natural resources take centre stage here. Guests can explore the beauty of this region on hikes, bike tours and other activities and experience the harmonious connection between man and nature in the Lungau Biosphere Reserve.
